Richard's Photography

My father, an amateur photographer, has had a huge impact on me and is certainly the reason why I love photography. I have two siblings: my older brother and my father’s camera. Why? Because my father’s camera is ubiquitous. It is accompanies us on every. single. family trip. Sometimes, he ventures off to incredible distances away from, say, our hotel for a trip, just to capture a few snapshots of local people, culture, and landscape. He would also get a bit distracted when we are on foot touring places. And yes, he annoys my mother quite a bit by doing so, because his phone isn’t always the most reliable.
However, now that I am exploring photography on my own, 7635 miles away from home, I can understand his intentions. I don’t think I ever get as homesick as others do, because I have so many photos to look back at from my father’s Facebook. I’m not entirely sure, but I think these photos turn my desire to be with family into feelings of anticipation for the next opportunity to be with them. Memory is best served when it is available to you and under YOUR control. A camera is a handy tool for me to remember great moments and showcase my view of the world to others. I am happy when I get to enjoy the satisfaction of capturing rare, magnificent moments that I know I can look back at, not imagine, in decades’ time.
I have always been passionate about photography, but it wasn’t until September of 2023 that I got my first camera—a Sony a6400. Some genres you will find in my work revolve around architecture, nature, street, lifestyle, and nightlife photography. As a somewhat beginner, I am currently sharpening my videography skills and dynamic shots on my camera. Please let me know if you have any advice or suggestions for any of my work!
